The Kitchen
133 Darby St
Newcastle NSW
As well as coffee, this cute little operation purveys icecreams and wines. Black, white and grey decor; terrazo floor; black bentwood chairs. These people clearly think their food is good and want patrons to see it so. Interesting cakes — Italian — cannoli etc. My l.b. comes hot and is of fine flavour. On street seating. $14 for tea, coffee and two small cakes. Recommended.

I’d heard some negative things about both the food and the speed at The Kitchen; but they’ve evidently fixed those problems. Blaine and I went there last Wednesday for breakfast, and it was wonderful. I had pancakes, which came with bananas in a cream sauce, and Blaine had what was called a full kitchen. He got two eggs, toast, bacon, tomato, sausage, mushrooms, and hash browns. It was huge, and he wasn’t able to finish all of it. What threw me was that the food came out piping hot after only a few minutes of waiting. I had only managed two sips of my latte (which was delicious, hearty, and served by a little blonde girl with a lovely smile and demeanor) when suddenly the food appeared. There were quite a few other tables, too, so my guess is they’ve found a chef who knows what he/she is doing. Well done, Kitchen. We’ll be back for more.
That saves me. Taknhs for being so sensible!
